February is commonly known as Carnival season in Hungary. A number of festivals staged this month are aimed to urge the winter to go away and the spring to come in it’s place. If you’re not afraid of a bit of cold weather this is a lovely time to visit Budapest and try some of the typical festival foods cooked this time of the year and get caught up in the Carnival spirit.
The Budapest Fish Festival is taking place between the 13th of and 16th of February at the yard of the Hungarian National Museum. Try one of the typical Hungarian fish dishes or taste some of the local wine and palinka. Cooking contest, live music and many more events are to entertain those who visit.
The Wine Festival is to take place just a fortnight later between the 28th of February and the 2nd of March at the elegant venue of the Corinthia Grand Hotel, so if you are around Budapest this time it’s definitely worth a visit.
