There are many outdoor activities to choose from when you are staying in Budapest, but if you like nature and walking you should visit the Buda hills. Take the chair lift (libego) from Zugligeti ut to the top of the hill. This is a truly unique way of transportation to the hill top and the view is amazing from there. The chair lift takes about 15 minutes to get to the top and it costs 1400 HUF for an adult return and 800 HUF for a child return ticket.
Zugligeti ut is easily accessible by car or public transport. Just take bus 291 from Nyugati Palyaudvar (Western Railway Station) or bus 158 from Szell Kalman ter and get off at the Zugliget – Libego stop (this is the last stop of bus 291). The lift operates from 9 am till 7 pm between May and September and 10 am till 3 pm from September till May.
Getting to the hill top you can get to the Erzsebet viewing tower with a short walk. From here you can see the panoramic view of Budapest. It is truly breath taking.
From here you can take a walk in the Buda hills or you can take the Children’s Railway tour down to Szechenyi-hegy. The railway is not only for children. The history of the Children’s railway stems back to the 1940s when it was originally built. During that time children have participated in various scout activities and one of them was the operation of the Children’s Railway. The conductors on this railway were and are children between the age of ten and fourteen with adult supervision.
